Sixth Form Colleges/School Sixth Forms mainly offer A-level courses. These qualifications build on the work done at GCSE and are mainly assessed through exams. They support different career paths which can lead to further study at university, an apprenticeship or job. It is usual to choose 3 or 4 subjects in the first year, and then continue with 3 subjects in the second year.
Colleges of Further Education offer a variety of courses at different levels, linked to various careers. These qualifications can lead to employment, apprenticeships or further study, either at college or at university.
Local colleges attend events, including parents evening, in school during Year 9, 10 and 11.
In Year 10, pupils have the opportunity to attend taster visits at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College and Darlington College.
In Year 11, colleges are invited to attend the post-16 options evening in October, deliver assemblies, and support pupils with applications. Pupils can also apply at home with parents / carers using the application forms found on college websites.
